Ah yes. The Rise of Skywalker. The last movie of the Skywalker saga. I had to see the movie twice because I wasn't able to process everything in my first showing. I'll just say this once: This movie is just. BAD in every way. Plot holes everywhere. Inconsistencies with TLJ. Terrible pacing. Just by watching the beginning, you can tell that the trilogy wasn't planned out accordingly and was pulled out "just because. I actually laughed with my bf at some parts because they were so bad (example: When Poe said "so Palpatine is alive somehow. I LOL'ed because they couldn't even explain how he survived! Lmao)
A lot of parts we're introduced way too fast because of pacing. World building was poorly executed and the characters kept jumping to new worlds too quickly. I didn't care about the new characters because I barely knew them. This movie somehow made me not care about any of the characters in the end because of its terrible conclusion. Leia was just creepy in this film and I hate that they didn't just give her a proper funeral for her in the beginning.
More damn plot holes. Leia is a Jedi this entire time I guess. Which is weird because the first 2 movies focused on bringing Luke back. Luke was supposed to be the powerful Jedi of the trilogy, but I guess he didn't really matter.
I guess you have to be related to a powerful Force bloodline in order to find your identity? Idk. I didn't understand the message of this mess of a movie, and I'm not even gonna mention how awful they treated Kylo, Hux, and Rose in this story. They were a complete joke in this film and they deserved better storytelling than the one we got. The film ended terribly and it will make you question the point of the entire trilogy. Because really, there was no point. Like, at all.
So why did I give it 3 Stars? Well, the movie did have its moments. The Rise of Skywalker definitely isn't the worst Star Wars movie (I'm looking at you, episode 1 and 2. br> And, despite being a terrible film, there were some scenes which I did like. For example, Ben Solo's redemption was very well done. I enjoyed the Han Solo scene. I enjoyed the parts where Ben was actually kicking for once. I enjoyed the force bond fight. I enjoyed Chewbaca's reaction to Leia's death and how Adam Driver crawled his way to cradle Rey's dead body (morbid? Perhaps. But the acting? Phenomenal. Very good and emotional.)
So that's why I gave it 3 Stars. The movie could have been a lot better, but it is what it is. I probably will not watch it again until it reaches Disney+ and even then I will probably only skip to the scenes which I liked.
